Getting Ready to Cast

While the weather is still not cooperating to allow me to sand-cast, at least it is nice enough to do some lost-wax casting.

Resin-Wax ready for investment.

I am finally getting back into lost-wax casting. I had always wanted to get myself a centrifugal caster as that is what I primarily used when I was getting my undergraduate degree. I had even bought one about four years ago, and it has only been in the last year that I have started to use that method again. Hopefully, as you can see, I am getting reading to cast two of my crossbow fibula designs. I have six flasks each of these as well as an earring design that I believe should turn out really nice when completed. Keep an eye out when I update my shop with those!

Ready for burn-out

Years ago, I purchased myself this small used kiln for about $100. In the last year, after much research (okay, watching YouTube videos), I was able to successfully adapt this kiln with a PID controller so I can control the entire process described by the investment manufacturer. While I know that there are folks out there that have a 5-6 hour burn-out process, I find that I am not that bold and instead just let it’s 14 hour burnout process go on its merry way. Basically, I get it going about 6-7pm and it is all ready for me in the morning with plenty of time to get my morning coffee in.
